The non-invasive embryo chromosomal selection technique, known as SecureSelect, has emerged as a valuable tool in the field of In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). This technique is based on the analysis of free DNA present in the culture medium where embryos develop, allowing the prioritisation of chromosomally normal embryos with a high degree of concordance with respect to conventional preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A). In this article, the SecureSelect methodology, its potential benefits and the full procedure are explored in detail.<\/p>\n

Assisted reproduction has revolutionised couples’ ability to overcome infertility and achieve the dream of parenthood. However, a crucial part of the process is the selection of high quality embryos that maximise the chances of implantation and success. SecureSelect, a non-invasive embryo chromosome selection technique, represents a significant advance in this field, enabling accurate prioritisation of embryos with normal chromosomal endowment.<\/p>\n

SecureSelect is based on the analysis of free DNA present in the culture medium where the embryos develop. The procedure consists of the following stages:<\/p>\n

  1. Embryo culture:<\/strong> embryos are left in culture until day three or four of development.<\/li>\n
  2. Washing and Transfer:<\/strong>\u00a0At this point, the embryos are washed and transferred to another culture medium where they will continue their development until the expanded blastocyst stage.<\/li>\n
  3. Culture Medium Collection:<\/strong> The culture medium surrounding the embryos is collected when the embryos reach the expanded blastocyst stage. During this process, the embryos are not subjected to any aggressive manipulation that could alter their state.<\/li>\n
  4. Non-invasive genetic analysis:<\/strong>\u00a0The collected culture medium is subjected to analysis by massive or next generation sequencing (NGS) in a Genetics Unit. This analysis provides information on the chromosomal status of the embryo, allowing the identification of chromosomally normal embryos.<\/li>\n
  5. Embryo Transfer Priorization:<\/strong>\u00a0Based on the results of the genetic analysis, the biomedical team advises couples on the order of embryo transfer, prioritising those with the highest probability of implantation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
