This technique is intended for couples who are carriers of balanced chromosomal alterations, for example, a chromosome translocation or inversion.
The chances of pregnancy are decreased in these couples because of the increased possibility that their gametes will carry an unbalanced chromosomal alteration which will give rise to altered embryos (whose chances of implantation are practically nil) or viable embryos and foetuses with partial aneuploidies. In this test, the complete chromosomal endowment of the embryo is studied and chromosomally balanced embryos are selected.
